Question:
I have found a 6 gallon crock with two pieces broken out of it and many cracks. I have one of the pieces. Because the front is not damaged I would like to glue the piece back in. I was wondering how to do that, and is there a way to put some sort of glaze over the whole thing to protect the cracks from getting worse? I am sending pictures. If you could tell me more about it, too that would be great! Thank you! Christy

Answer: Christy, I am not much of a repairer, but if you want a strong fix, I would use 2 ton epoxy with a 30 minute set time. Glue the pieces then set them in. If you can use a piece of rope as a turniquite that will help snug the pieces in tightly. Once dried, you can use a razor blade to scrap off the excess glue. If you want a cleaner fix but you must move quickly, then liquid super glue works well. Again, let the glue dry an then use a razor blade to scrap off the excess glue. I do not know of any type of glaze that you can put over the entire piece to protect it. Most glazes or varnishes will turn yellow in time and make your piece look unsightly. Good luck. Al Kohlman
