Looking for value (sorry no photo, but could take if needed – don’t have dig camera) brown jug approx 8 1/2 in tall opening approx 2 in wide approx 26 in diam. kinda squat looking. does have Red Wing on bottom, also some # however not real clear poss a 3 or 8 & 70?? or STO not clear then some space and ? AA not sure of those letters either. My brother in law found on his property in the UP of Michigan. His property was a CCC camp during the war and over the years he has found old bottles etc. It looks as if a lot of glaze has fallen off over the years since it was partically burried and in the snow for many years etc. The original glaze looks dark brown and where it appears to be coming off it is a wet sand color or a little darker. Thanks for any help you can give me. Brensa
Answer: Brensa, it appears your bother may have found a Red Wing molded "bird’ jug or common jug. The molded "bird" jug may explain the design on the bottom that you just cannot make out. The bird design would be an extremely primitive design of a bird that only a Red Wing collector would be able to recognize. These jugs came in 2, 1 & 1/2 gallon sizes. These jugs were posted in the Red Wing advertisements beginning in 1895. Al Kohlman
