Question:
Hi, When my great grandmother passed away I was given some pottery. I’m now trying to find out if the pottery has any value. The platter has the words "red Wing" stamped on the bottom. The pot with the lid doesn’t. The paint is in really bad shape, The glaze seems fine thou. Any opion on these pieces would be much appreciated. Thank you, Beth

Answer:

Beth: You have a stoneware Munch Jar and a Salad Bowl.   There was also a Cookie Jar with the same design to fill out the trio. They were introduced in the early 1940’s but we don’t have documents to show when they were discontinued. I have not seen a marked Munch Jar but marked Salad Bowls are the norm. They were available in white, green, or brown with the decoration applied over the glaze. This is called cold painting and is very fragile. These items with intact paint are rare. In well used condition, I would expect the Salad Bowl to be worth $15-$25 and the Munch Jar about the same. Those prices assume no chips or cracks.
