Question:
I got 2 pieces at an action that a man there said they were Red Wing but there’s no bottom marks. One is an Orange Platter that measure 14 3/4" Round and the other is yellow. It’s hard to tell colors. Is it Red Wing? Amanda

Answer: These two pieces are likely to have been made by Red Wing but I cannot be certain without a better quality photo. Red Wing made a 15 inch Sandwich Tray that looks like this one but the color should be bright orange, not rust. Red Wing also made bean pots with covers in three sizes. Again the color is a problem because this should be a bright yellow if it was made by Red Wing, not a dull yellow. The missing cover would also provide a clue to the identity. Both of these pieces would be from the Plain pattern, which was part of the extensive Gypsy Trail line made from 1935 to the mid 1940s. But other potteries made similar items in similar colors, so without better details it is difficult to be sure.
