Question:
I have a pink Redwing cookie jar in the shape of a bunch of grapes in excellent condition with no flaws I could find. I was wondering what it;s value is approx. I had another one of these that I sold on e-bay which was a green color and it sold for $750.00. See link:
Is there any reason why the green one sold for so much money? Is the pink one of the same value? Any help would be greatly appericiated. Thank You, Steve

Answer:
Red Wing made cookie jars in several fruit shapes including apple, pear, pineapple, a bunch of bananas and a bunch of grapes, as well as the short-lived cabbage shape. These were made in the early 1940s and were part of the Gypsy Trail Hostess Ware line. These cookie jars were available in orange, blue, yellow, turquoise, pink, green and cream ivory colors.
$700 for a standard green grape cookie jar seems very high to me. I would place the value for this jar in any color to be in the $100 to $200 range. Perhaps there was something different about the green jar that would attract such a price, maybe an unusual shade of green or a special marking. Or perhaps the auction had two bidders both determined to not lose the bid. Hard to say without viewing a photo of the piece.
