Question:
I have what appears to be a blue Pierre the Chef cookie jar, the only thing is that it does not have the redwing stamp, only a nickle sized blue ink stamp that I cannot read on the bottom. Does this sound like a marking used by redwing? thanks also has a chip on inside of base on the lip not noticible when lid is on it, how does this effect pricing?

Answer: I’ve seen this mark before but cannot find an example of it. I believe it reads "Red Wing Hand Painted" and that it is usually found on art pottery. The chip will certainly reduce the value of this cookie jar, as will the staining seen in the photo. Any damage reduces the value of pottery as compared to a piece in excellent, clean condition. The staining and the chip will reduce the value by at least one-third and probably closer to one-half, depending on the size of the chip. And that assumes there is no other damage.
