Question:

A few weeks ago you spoke with my mother, Charlotte Jacob, about a Red Wing plate that she has. She asked me to take pictures of it and e-mail you so that she could find out if it is worth anything. Pictures are attached. If you would like to e-mail your reply back to me, I will get it to her.

Answer:
Without actually viewing the piece in question it is difficult to verify authenticity. But I believe this is a test or sample pattern on dinner plate blank from the Like China line. The handwritten codes on the back are similar to those found on known Red Wing test pieces. The plate has a small circle in the middle of the back, indicative of a Like China blank. The artwork resembles the designs found on the four production patterns in the Like China line, and like them appears to have been applied via stencil. The Like China line was introduced in 1964, so this plate was like made around that time. Red Wing test plates have sold in recent years for $250 to $1000. I’d estimate the value of this plate to be around the middle of that range.
