Question:
Hi I recently went through my mother’s belongs and came across 4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates (one with a large chip which I still have), and 4 saucers. I looked up the pattern and it is the plum blossom collection. They are in pristine condition as they have been hid away for about 40 years….i never remember seeing them – ever. I also have a dark green art deco type coffee decanter (LARGE), cream and sugar and salt and pepper that seem to belong to it too.. These have no decorations. Only The plates say red wing hand painted on the back. The thing I am wondering is, are these of any value or interest to anyone. I would love to see them in a home of someone who would cherish them if they are indeed collectible. I could probably get a friend to take a picture of them if there is any serious interest in them. I would sincerely appreciate a reply as I am quite curious if there is an interest out there for them.

Answer: Plum Blossom flatware (plates, bowls, etc) was made two colors: Citron Yellow and Petal Pink. Yellow is more common and plates in this color don’t seem to hold much interest for collectors. Pink is more difficult to find and is more desirable.

Plum Blossom hollow ware (pitchers, teapots, casseroles, salt & pepper shakers,) was made in three exterior colors: Citron Yellow, Woodland Green and Mica Bronze. Woodland Green is the color of your coffee server, sugar, creamer and salt & pepper. The coffee server and S&P shakers are not easy to find and are the most valuable of the pieces in your set, around $50 for each. There are certainly collectors who would be interested in them. Your other pieces aren’t worth as much but would hold value to the right person.
