Question:
I work at a Thrift Store. Someone donated a platter approximately 13 1/4 by 11 1/4. ON the back there is a wing and the words REDWING and underthat word HANDPAINTED. It is white with two large pink roses and 7 green leaves. It this a real redwing? Is it worth anything? We want to sell it to benefit our non-profit charity.
Answer: From your description I believe you have Lexington chop plate. Lexington is a pattern in the Concord shape and it features two pink roses and a number of green leaves. With the mark you describe there is no reason to doubt this an authentic Red Wing piece. Lexington is a common pattern. In excellent condition a Lexington chop plate would be worth around $25. Chips, cracks, and stains will reduce the value significantly, especially with a common piece like this one.
