Question:
I was hoping to find out what the pattern name was on this piece as well as what the type of dish it is was called. I believe it holds eggs. It appears to be in very good condition. It has the red wing marking and a number on the back. I was also wondering what it might be worth. I picked it up today at my local thrift store. Thank you very much for your help.

Answer: You’ve made a very nice buy! The name of this pattern is Lotus, one of the many patterns in the Concord shape. The item in your photo is indeed an egg plate. The Lotus pattern was introduced in 1947 and made until 1957. However, the egg plate was not added to the line until 1952, thus it was made for only five years. It is one of the tougher Lotus pieces to find. And to make a good thing better, your egg plate still has has the cover for the center compartment. These covers are often missing, lost or broken at some point over the years. The value for a Lotus egg plate with cover in excellent condition would be over $100. One recently sold on eBay; can’t remember the exact price but it was somewhere around $150. Congratulations on an excellent find!
