Question:
Hello, I don’t know if you have to be a member to ask a question – but I put my membership form in the mail so I’ll be one soon. I recently acquired this Red Wing Saxon pot. It has the Red Wing Saxon Minn. mark on the bottom and it has the number 105 on the side. I was wondering if you could tell me more about it and what it could possibly be worth. It has some roughness around the rim and one very small chip out of the rim (about 1/8 inch or so) otherwise it is in great condition. Thanks in advance Diane Ashcraft
Answer: Hi Diane, we watched this one on Ebay, bid on it as well. This is a version of the "Cleveland" vase, circa late 1880′s. Not much is known about these particular lines of art pottery. No known catalogs or other reference materials mention "Saxon" It is presumed to be the first line of Artware Red Wing produced. A few show up from time to time, none I have seen are glazed, some are cold painted.
A nice example, pretty rare. I should have bid more!! Ebay is a good price guide, so I would go with that. thanks, steve n rose
