15 gallon Red Wing crock

Question:

Dear Experts,

I have recently received a nice stoneware pot and would like to know more about it (it’s birthdate, value, and anything else that might be interesting). I’m attaching a photo or two. Thank you!

Erik

Madison, WI

Answer:

Eric, we live in the same city and state!  I am on the north side of Madison.   Anyway, your 15 gallon Red Wing crock was produced between 1915 & 1930.  If in perfect condition, the value is between $125 & $150.  This is do to the smaller wing and stenciling not being as perfect as collector want today.  Al Kohlman

Red Wing 3 gallon stoneware crock , ski oval

Question:

Hello there my name is Steve and I have a question for you. I have had this stoneware for many years, a friend gave it to me years ago for helping him move, today I brought it in from the front porch and cleaned it up. After I cleaned it I decided to check it out Online and see what it was and was surprised to find that people collected them, anyway I have two pictures of it and would appreciate it if you could tell me something about it.

Thank you,

Steve

Answer:

Steve, you have a very nice and clean Red Wing 3 gallon stoneware crock with the first Red Wing oval (called the ski oval).  The Red Wing Stoneware company used birch leaves for decorations before the produced the “red wing” in 1909.   Your 3 gallon Red Wing birch leave crock was produced between 1895 & 1909.  Value in perfect condition with the ski oval and great markings is around $100.  Al Kohlman

gallon white jug looks to be a Red Wing shoulder jug

Question:

Hello

Can you tell me more about these two items I have. The crock is about 8-9″ tall  and the Jug is about 10-12″ tall with no marking on it.

The crock has a USA mark on the bottom. Jeremy

Answer: Jeremy, your 1 gallon white jug looks to be a Red Wing shoulder jug.  With no decorations or advertising, the value is between $20 & $25.  The flower crock is from the Western Stoneware   Company.  With the crack and being Western the value is quite low.  Maybe $10.  Al Kohlman

3 gallon Red Wing birch leaf crock

Question:

I cannot find this crock on the website.  Please give me information on the value, year it was manufactured and some history.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jerry

Answer:

Jerry, you have a 3 gallon Red Wing birch leaf crock that was produced between 1895 & 1906.  It looks like this crock has a major glaze imperfection and would most likely have been a second when sold.  The value would be quite low with this imperfection.  Maybe $15 to $20 at best.  Al Kohlman
