Vintage line, RumRill 616L

Question: Hello,

We recently acquired this wine decanter I understand was made between 1932-1937 and is Pamperian pattern 616L RumRill.  Can you please provide some additional information, if it’s rare and what it’s possibly worth?  It’s in near mint condition with no major chips or cracks that I can find. Please see attached pics  It stands 11.5″ tall x 9″ in diameter at the bottom base.  The neck is 6.25″ tall and the opening from handle to spout is 4″ long x 2.5″ wide.

Answer: Grazia
your ewer is part of the Vintage line from the mid 30′s.  the glaze is called Pompeian.  this particular shape has mirror image forms, hence, left and right.  Value is around 90.00 or so.  thanks, steve n rose

Rumrill 570, triple nude

Question:

I have a bluish green 570; what would be the current value, thanks, Lana

Answer: If it’s the RumRill triple nude shape, I would say around 500.00, maybe.  I haven’t seen any of these sell lately.  thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing 20 gallon transion leaf crock

Question:

Could you please tell me what you think this is worth?

Lovely 20 gallon Red Wing Crock with hand drawn leaves and the number 20 also hand drawn in blue.  It is stamped Union – Stoneware Co. – Red Wing, Minn.

It does have a crack near the back of the crock which does go all the way throught to the inside of the crock. It has been repaired by a previous owner.

Answer:  Kim, two back that crack is so large on your Red Wing 20 gallon transion leaf crock.  Value with the crack would be $500 to $600.  Still a very pretty piece.  Al

Bob White Cruets

Question:

Hello, Do you have any idea whether there was a Bob White design flower vase produced?Attached are three photos (views: front, side, back) of a piece I haven’t been able to find any specific information on… Any assistance would be appreciated. Zane

Answer:

Yes, the photo shows a Bob White cruet without a stopper.  I’ve attached a photo of a pair of cruets complete with stoppers and the wrought iron stand that came with them.  (In later years the stand was made with copper rather than black iron).

Gypsy Trail “Plain” cruet

Question:

Hi!  

 

I have a question for the artware folks:  can you tell me anything about this little teal-glazed vase?  It stands 3-3/4 inches tall and is only about 2-1/2 inches wide.  It’s marked “Red Wing” on the bottom and is glazed in white on the inside.

Answer:

The item in the photo is not a vase.  It is a turquoise cruet from the “Plain” dinnerware pattern, which is part of the vast Gypsy Trail line.  It was made in the late 1930s and was available in turquoise, yellow, orange, blue and ivory.  Value for this cruet is $25-30 if it is in excellent condition.

fish-shaped casserole

Question:

I inherited this green coy fish from my grandmother who lived in lake city, mn.  I know little else besides it has red wing written on the bottom.

Answer:

Besides RED WING USA there should also be a three digit number on the bottom.  If the number is 248, the item is a fish-shaped casserole.  If the number is 247, then it is a marmite (individual casserole) and is considerably smaller than the casserole.  Fish and Chicken shaped casseroles and marmites were made in the mid 1940s and were part of the Gypsy Trail Hostess Ware group.   Assuming excellent condition with no damage or staining, value for the marmite is $40-60 and the casserole $60-80.

Brushed Ware shape 105

Question:

Found a ‘planter’ piece—It is described in ‘Red Wing Potters & Their Wares’  Second Edition by the Teffts’.

The one I am looking at is shown on page 169 of this book   — middle row—left hand side.   It is marked ‘red wing art pottery’    Mint condition—little dirt ring on inside.  Can you advise an approximate value?

Milk Pans, nesting them small to large

Question:

Al,

My question is on milk pans.  I have collected a set of the white milk pans.  Each of the pans nest within the next larger pan, except for the 1.5 and 2 gal pan.  The 1.5 will not nest all the way in to the 2.  They rest on the rims.  All of my pans are bottom marked.  I have tried many different combinations (newer and older bottom marked) and can not find a combination that works.  Do you know if they ever were intended to nest or if anyone has a nest?

Soured Milk Pan Dan

Dan, I have only bought and sold milk pans, but have never tried to nest them together.  I am afraid I am of little help with this one.  Al Kohlman

Red Wing Fruit Jar – believed to be fake

Question:

Could you tell me if this Fruit Jar is rare and how much it might be worth? I believe it to be a quart size.

Answer:

Erich, I am afraid that this is not a Red Wing fruit jar as I have never seen this style before.  Therefore, I strongly believe the Red Wing on this jar is a Fake!   Now if you can get your hands on this jar, take a small pocket knife and see if that red wing will not begin to peal off when scraped. 

Let me know as I would love to have a follow-up on this piece.  Al

5 gallon, large wing shoulder jug

Question:

I have 2 questions on stoneware, both 5 gal. jugs. I’ve attached a photo of one… The one with the 5 on the neck, IT IS ALSO BOTTOM SIGNED “RWS CO” in a straight line.

The second jug, also 5 gal. has albany slip (brown) on the neck above the shoulder. The price guide shows a 1/2 , 1, and 2 gallon with only a wing… The one I have has the wing and also an oval. I am not able to supply a photo at this time as it is not in my possession yet.

Would the expert comment on value of these 2 items. THANKS.

Answer:

Chuck, the first 5 gallon shoulder jug with the gallon-age number on the domb and with the 6 inch wing has a value between $250 & $300 depending on condition.  In mint condition, I would go with the higher value.

Now the second 5 gallon with the red wing and oval with the Albany slip top depends on conditon and the size of the red wing.  I have had them all and sold them anywhere from $300 for the small wing with light markings to $800 for a 4 1/2 inch red wing (that was one of the best 5 gallon wing jugs that I have ever seen or owned).  Hope this helps.  al
