Red Wing M-1502 console bowl, designer Charles Murphy

Question:
I have a Red Wing console(?) bowl with M-1502 mark on bottom and paper Red Wing art pottery label red/gold on the inside. It is approx 17-18 inches long. Three-legged bowl comes to a squared point in one end. I’m not able to find it listed anywhere. Red Wing Trading Post referred me to you. Any help on age, value, etc?? Thanks! Gayle (I’m not able to send a pic)

Answer: Hi Gayle

It’s part of a line done by Charles Murphy, circa 1956. Hand decorated, I believe. Value on this is around 95.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Floor Vase/umbrella stand

Question:
I have an umbrella stand (22 X 10 in) that is unmarked. It has a light green glaze inside. It was in my great grandmother’s house in Red Wing for as long as anyone can remember. Is it Red Wing? and is it indeed an umbrella stand? my grandmother valued it highly and it was passed on to me.

Answer: Hello

It is indeed an umbrella stand, but not made by Red Wing. Many companies made this type of item, with this blended type glaze. Can’t give you a specific maker, but it’s a nice one. Value should be around 400.00 or so. hope this helps, thanks, steve n rose

Pegasus planter (1341) and Elephant planter

Question:
I have two planters–a pegasus (7 X 7 in) and an elephant (3 X 2 in) and am wondering if they are Red Wing. I’m pretty sure the pegasus is Red Wing Pottery. Regarding the pegasus–is this design rarer than the pegasus design with the solid base and the face looking straight ahead?

Answer: Hi

your pegasus planter is shape 1341, from 1949. It is a bit more uncommon than the 1340, which sits on a base. Value is around 125.00 or so. The elephant isn’t made by Red Wing, not sure on that one. thanks, steve n rose
