Red Wing 1255

Question:
my piece is a planter or vase, I believe. The outside is green, the inside is yellow. Approx size 4 1/2" tall x 14"wide. The back is flat, the front is round. It’s depth (from the back to the front) is 3 3/4". It is marked on the outside back RED WING USA with four numbers. I think the first is either a 7 or 1 then 255. the first number is not as deeply imprinted as the other 3. The front has design like swirls shaped like paisley or swan like. I’m sure the design type has a name, it’s used alot in ceramic or home decor. I’m sure this is an old piece, my aunt had it when we were kids. I’m 51 now. It is in great shape tho with glaze crackling inside but no chips. It feels fragile to hold or use. Thank You

Answer: Your window box/planter is shape 1255. Designed around 1946. It has a value of around 30.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Water cooler spigot repair

Question:
I have a large water crock with original spigot. Unfortunately, the last time I used it, some of the spigot "workings" broke, probably from rust. Can it be repaired, and if so, where? Thank you, I love that crock and would love to be able to use it again.

Stoneware jug lamp

Question:
I was given this item in "lamp" form when a friend of mine was disposing of items from a family estate. I recognized it could have value, but it was foolishly converted by someone who was, well, a fool. I’d like to know what its value range is as both a perfect in tack piece and its current "hole in the side for the lamp cord". Hole is about 7/16". I guess that was the smallest drill they had? Heck maybe I’m the fool and that’s the way it was produced . . . for a spigot? One never knows, but it would probably be on the front not the side. Also how unusual or uncommon are these and was it made for a true purpose or as some mass collectable piece? Enclosed are 2 photographs (I hope). If the other didn’t make it then I’ll sed it when you respond. Thank you for your time, Doug Jamieson

4 gallon birch leave

Question:
My family found this crock at an auction. My sister-in-law who collects red wing crocks thinks that the elephant ears marking is characteristic of red wing. There are no cracks or chips in the crock and the only markings are the "4" and the elephant ears. Is this a red wing crock? If so, any idea of the value?

8 inc vase, Lion Vase, red wing 164S

Question:
I inherited a flower vase that has stamped in a round blue stamp on the bottom "Red Wing Union Stoneware Co, Reg Wing, Minnesota." There is no serial number that I can find. The vase is about 8" high with glazes that start as a celdon mixed green to more of an olive green going towards the top. There are decorative figuresThere appears to be a seam on one side. The inside of the vase appears to have a cream colored glaze. The condition of the vase is outstanding with no nicks, cracks or missing glaze. I want to know how old it may be. The lady who willed it to me had owned a card and millener shop before WWII. I will send a second message showing the bottom of the vase with the stamped lettering. Thankyou . Meli Calkins

Answer: Hi Meli,

This is called the Lion Vase. The glaze is combination green/tan. This is the smaller size, there is a larger one. It dates to around 1931. Value is around 125.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
