Red Wing 1360

Question:
I have a vase that is gray on the outside, pink on the inside. Flowers and leaves all the way up one side and only in the middle of the other side. It also has small handles that run up both sides between the flowers and leaves. The #1360 RED WING USA on the bottom. Anything you could tell me would be great. Thanks

Answer: Hello, the 1360 was designed in 1949, but your glaze is luster gray/coral, which would date it to 1951. Value is around 30.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

20 Gallon self draining jar with New York Advertising

Question:
Hey, from Atlanta. My mother in law is from Red Wing, when she moved she gave me this rather large container. The container is open on both sides and looks as if it is upside down… it stands 23" tall and is 60" round. Could it be part of a water cooler? I am sending photos. We have two in the family. Thank you (I have it in the garden, should I bring it in? T England

Pickle Bown

Question:
I am inquiring about an item described to me as a "pickle top" It is grey clay, fits on top of a 10 gal crock. It is "bowled or rounded in the bottom, top edge is more like a weight. At the edge there is a molded piece which holds a hinge which has hardward attached that holds a glass cover. The cover is meant to be lifted so that a pickle can be removed from the brine. There is no mark on the piece but it is the red wing grey clay color. It also has blue lettered advertising from a store with branches in Boston and Chicago. Any ideas? I have searched all the books I have so am turning to you. I donot have a picture at this time as I just saw this piece and am interested in it because have never seen on linke it. But, would like it to be red wing before considering a purchase. Thanks for any help you can offer. Bob

10 Gallon birch leaf

Question:
I have a crock, with the ‘Union’ Oval beneath a big 10 (for 10 gals I presume) and two leaves beneath. My father used it to make beer and root beer in the early 50s and my guess is that he bought it after the war. My question is whether it is safe to use, e.g. does it contain lead, etc. I’d like to use it but my wife is worried that back then they didn’t pay attention to such issues.

Red Wing M1440

Question:
My friend asked if I could use my computer to get her some information on a vase she just purchased for a few dollars at a 2nd hand store. I do not have a picture, but it very clearly reads "Red Wing USA M-1440" on the bottom. It stands about 6 1/8" tall at its highest point. The opening is scalloped/wavy and is approximately 5 1/2" long x 2" wide. The bottom 2" of the vase appear to be footed with a leaf and/or petal detail. From what I’ve read on this site today, I believe the glaze is chartreuse lined with grey and the designer is Charles Murphy. Can you tell me the year this vase was made, and the cost value today if in good condition? Any other info on this piece is welcome. Thanks ~ Josie

Answer: Hi Josie, It was designed in 1954, and you are right, designed by Murphy. Value is around 25.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
