Red Wing Lotus Vase, H 510

Question:

My name is Barb. I sent a few pics of this vase. It is roughly 10 and three quarter inches in height at the top lip; roughly 5 and a half inches wide at the belly; there are about 5 chips at the base.
Was wondering what value this item may be worth?
Thank you, will wait for your response.
Barb

Answer: These can be quite valuable in mint condition. Damage in art pottery sends it plummeting. Even with damage, you might get $20 for this. Mint they are currently $150-200 for most shapes.

RWCS announces MidWinter to Return to Iowa in 2017

RED WING, MN  –  The Red Wing Collectors Society (RWCS) is excited to announce its annual MidWinter GetTogether will return to the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines, February 24-26, 2017.  This is the same location where event was held from 2001 to 2014.

In addition to changing the location, the RWCS has also moved the event to the last weekend of February. Over the past decade, driving conditions and cold temperatures have made it a challenge for many RWCS members to commit to traveling to MidWinter.

“It is our hope that by moving to later in February, the weather will be better and members will travel with confidence to MidWinter in Des Moines next year,” says RWCS President Larry Birks.

The RWCS appreciates the spectacular hospitality of the Badger and Wisconsin chapters during MidWinter’s time in Wisconsin, where the event was held for the past two years. The organization hopes to return to Wisconsin in the future.

“The warm welcome and support of RWCS members in Wisconsin will be remembered by those who attended MidWinter these past two years,” Birks adds.

MidWinter has been an annual event for the RWCS for more than 15 years. It is an opportunity for members to keep their collecting interest and passions burning until the annual RWCS Convention in Red Wing, MN in July. With a theme of “Ruby Red Wing”, the 2016 Convention slated for July 7-9 will celebrate the organization’s 40th Annual Convention.

The RWCS was founded in 1977 in Red Wing and there are more than 3,000 members worldwide. Annual membership in the Red Wing Collectors Society costs only $35 and includes six 16-page full-color newsletters mailed to your home throughout the year. For more information or to become a member, call the RWCS business office at 800-977-7927, e-mail membership@redwingcollectors.org or log on to www.redwingcollectors.org. You can also join the RWCS page on Facebook and follow the group on Twitter at twitter.com/RWcollectors.

2 gallon advertising crock Bause advertising and butter pail

Question:

Hi,

Thanks for your recent appraisals. I have a couple more items I would like your opinion on.

The first one is a 2 gallon advertising crock which appears to be Redwing. It belongs to a co-worker of mine. She is from northern Wisconsin and it has been in her family for many years. I think it’s a great piece! Sorry to say, it has a hole drilled in the base.  ?

The second item is a butter crock which I acquired at a yard sale in Red Wing during last summers Convention. I recently was able to purchase the lid, which I believe is correct. The lid has a glazed over chip on the rim and the crock has 2 small chips on the base.

Thanks

Andy

Answer:

Andy, the 2 gallon advertising crock is a great piece.  It is to bad that someone drilled a hole in the bottom of it. Value with the hole drilled $800 to $1000.  Your Red Wing butter jar with lid and two small base chips, $175 to $200.   Al Kohlman

Red Wing 5 gallon koverwate

Question:

Hello,  my name is Maureen.  I’d like to downsize my many decades of collecting, including crocks.  I particularly like advertising and designs in blue.  I’d like to start with my koverwate.  It’s 10″ in diameter, a very blue 5 inside base, 5 holes in base, 2 on each side, and a very blue square on side, stamped koverwate with 6 following lines. No cracks or chips, 2 very light hairline lines(?) about 1 or 2″ long inside base, but very solid under base. Glaze is shiny, smooth, and the shade of all my stamped red wings.  It’s coloring is very nice.  I’d appreciate info on it’s value.

Thank you,  Maureen

Answer:

Maureen, with the 2 very tight hairlines, your Red Wing 5 gallon koverwate would have a value right around $150.  Red Wing collectors love their koverwates, however, they want them mint and even though the hairlines are tight and only 1 to 2 inches long, they are just that hairlines.   I wish you well with your downsizing.  Al Kohlman

North Star I gal albany glazed jar, signed

Question:

Hello Al,

I have not been able to find any information on this marked slop jar I purchased (small chip on base) … Also, I have an opportunity to buy a North Star preserve 1 gallon albany glazed jar, but I am not sure what to purchase it for … it does have two small chips on lip … Any info on value on these would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Douglas

Answer:

A one gallon NS jar would sell for about $225.

The signed slop jar is very difficult to find and valued about $800-1000.
