Red Wing Vase

Question:
I have a 10″ high satin finish vase (5 1/2 w. at lip. long neck & bulbous at bottom. What I need help with is the mark. It says: red wing pottery in a circle with a star in the middle all printed in blue. The color of the vase is orchid and it appears to be hand thrown. Also has three small decorative rings at top. I would greatly appreciate information as to the year it was made and what the value is. It sits on my coffee table and I never get tired of looking at it. Thank you so much for any help. Carolyn

Answer: Carolyn, the mark is fairly rare, not used too often, presumed to be from the mid-thirties. A pic would be great, as the shape isn’t ringing any bells in my head. It should still be worth 75.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing #1296

Question:
I recently purchased the #1296 bird vase for $12.00, the only trouble being the vase has two hairlines inside and it appears someone tried to "pretty it up" by outlining the rim and bird and flowers with gold paint. Is there anything you can recommend to remove the gold paint? And what is the value of the vase, if any? Thank-you

Answer: Any mild paint stripper will take off the added "decoration", and won’t hurt the vase. If the lines don’t go thru to the outside, it should be fine. Value is arund 50.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose

My wife and I have been collecting the Blue and also the Red versions of pieces from the Anniversary line. But is there any list of exactly what was made in this line so we know what else we need to be looking for?

Answer: The shapes 2300 thru 2319, were designated for the overlay glazes, as well as the Oxford-black/white stipple. there may be a few exceptions, as always with Red Wing, but that should cover most of them. thanks, steve n rose
