Red Wing vase, green textured glaze, shape 199

Question:
Hi, My parents had this vase for years. It is marked in a circle on the bottom – red wing art pottery -there are no numbers on the bottom. I have search the internet for hours trying to identify the glaze etc. it is 9 5/8" tall and the textured glaze looks like butterfly wings! the color is black with shadings of a pinkish or flesh colors. There is about a 3/8" wide ‘chip’ on the bottom edge that looks like it was done in the production-it is black and glazed over. Help!! Pat

Answer: Hi Pat

help is on the way—- It’s shape #199, one of my favorites, early artware, circa 1930. No one has a name for this glaze, kind of a crystalline look. there are a few out there, but quite uncommon. The chip will hurt it’s value. Try some acetone to see if someone has touched it up. Value around 300.00, depending on who wants it! thanks, steve n rose

Red Wing Vase with flowers on it

Question:
I have a 6 inch redwing vase, I think. It is the tan and blue with the flower on the front. It is narrow at the top, with two attached handles, and has a like a potbelly bottom. It says Red wing union stoneware co. MN. The handles are also embelished. I am interested to see if it is worth anything. Should I take it to a dealer. I am also not going to sell it or get rid of it as my mother gave it to me.

Answer: I think your vase would be early artware, from the stamp. Circa 1930. Brushed Ware, a matt finish. Shape # 127 fits your description, value is around 85.00 or so. thanks, steve n rose
