Would like to know any information and approx. value on this Hazel Butter Crock. It has 3 chips around upper rim and a chip on each side where the handle attaches, no cracks that I can see. I do not see Red Wing stamped anywhere on the piece. Does the smeared label take away from the value? Thank you in advance for your help. Julie

ANswer: Julie, there are a number of different styles of advertising for the Hazel Butters out of Chicago. They did quite a bit of business with the Red Wing Stoneware Company. The size of your piece is 5 pounds (it held 5 pounds of butter). In perfect condition and excellent markings, they fetch in the area of $200 to $225. Now the smeared label does take away for the value as does the chips. As I see yours, $100 to $125
