Question:
Can you give me an idea of value and who made this crock. I’m looking into this for my aunt and do not have the exact measurements but she is in the photo which should give an estimate to the size. The crock behind it is 5 gallons. – Thanks Rachael
Answer: Rachael, I can only comment on the 6 gallon crock I see in the photo. It is a 6 gallon salt glazed crock with a lazy 8 target decoration. This is a very common decoration used by all the mid-western stoneware companies. Not seeing more of the crock, I can not tell for sure if yours is Red Wing. However, that rust just below the rim tells me that someone had a wire around this crock and it had rusted. That rust is very hard to remove. Also, that wire around the crock tells me that it most likely is cracked and they wired it around the rim to prevent the crack from getting larger. With the rust and crack the value is between $50 & $75. Both of these flaws just kills the value. Al Kohlman
