Question:
I have a 5 gal RW jug that has a chip on the bottom rim, the glaze has two drip flaws on the left (when facing front) and a ceramic flaw to the right (it is not a crack). What I have not seen, is another jug of this type with a "6" painted at the neck/spout. Does anyone know about this particular release and its value? Bob
Answer: Bob, I have seen these Red Wing shoulder jugs with the numbers on the spouts before, but have no idea of why they were applied or for what reasons. They do not raise the values on these shoulder jugs. Also, your shoulder jug was produced between 1936 & 1947, so it is the later shoulder jugs produced. With the chip on the base the value is around $50. Al Kohlman
