Question:
I was searching in an old junk pile on our property today and found an old 12 gallon Red Wing crock dated 1913. It’s beautiful, but, SADLY, broken. About 4 larger pieces in the front area. I had pity on her and brought her up to the house for a thorough cleaning and now I’m going to glue her back together because she’ll still be beautiful on my deck! My question is… What type of glue is the best to glue this pottery together with? I have instant krazy glue – will this work? I’ve only read "heavy duty glue" but that doesn’t help on exactly what kind or brand. Thank you! IF you have time, please respond quickly as I’d love to get started ASAP! :) Alice

Answer: Alice, if your pieces fit together tightly, then I like using liquid super glue. However, you must work fast. If you decide to use the super glue, don’t wipe any of the excess glue off when you have finished gluing all the pieces together, Let the glue dry and the next day you can use a razor blade to scrape off any access glue. Or, you can use a 30 minute epoxy glue. This glue gives you more time to get the pieces together and now you can also wipe off the excess glue while it is wet. You will also want to apply a tourniquet to your crock after the pieces are glued and leave it on for 24 hours. Good luck with your project. Al Kohlman
