Question:
Here are 2 crocks I believe to be early Red Wing, due to type of fingerhold handle. The 4 gal. has a very slight taper making it narrower at top. The larger has one chip at the base; otherwise, both are in what I consider nearly mint condition. Maker? Date? Value? Cheryl

 

Answer: Cheryl, your 4 gallon salt glazed crock is not Red Wing. I have no idea of maker, history or value. The 5 gallon Rib cage crock is Red Wing. It was manufactured between 1870 & 1895 or so. With the chip at the base and the slight staining, the value is between $225 & $250. Al Kohlman
