Question:
Hello. I was wondering about a Red Wing cattail cookie jar lid. The lid is in excellent condition, but has what I would think is an unussual feature. It has a hole that has been drilled or somehow put in either intentionally or by accident during the manufacture of this lid. My question is could this have been done intentionally or is it some factory flaw? It is glazed inside the hole so it was definately done at the factory , but then wouldn’t this have been spotted by some sort of quality control? I have never seen this sort of thing on a jar lid so I would like to hear some opinions from some jar /Red Wing collectors to hear what they have to say about this. I am genuinely baffled by this. I can send you more pictures if you like-Andrew
Answer: Andrew, I can see from the photo that the hole is glazed. Therefore the hole is factory made. Why the hole, I just have no idea. I have seen the holes in the sponged casserole lids which I am sure was to relieve the steam. But this cattail cookie jar lid like you as me stumped. Al Kohlman
