Question:
Dear Expert, I have this half-gallon plant pot with a blue mark on the bottom that says ‘made in red wing’. It also has an inscription that says ’5′. I’m a little confused, because ‘made in red wing’ doesn’t necessarily mean that is from the redwing company. What would you say? It has a pretty large crack, anyway. thank you Henrieke

Answer: Henrieke, you have the larger of the two original Red Wing Stoneware Company (gray-line) sponge band butter jars. These were produced in the 1920′s and came with a lid. If your butter pail was in perfect condition and had the original lid, it would be worth about $500. With the crack and no lid the value would be around $25 (to bad). Al Kohlman
