Question:
hi, i have a 5 gallon shoulder style jug with 2 birch leaves on the side and a oval underneath that reads UNION STONEWARE CO. Red Wing Minn. The bottom is stamped Minnesota Stoneware Co. Red Wing Minn. Condition is excellent; no cracks, but there is a flat flake type chip the size of a nickel on the side at the bottom. It was glazed over. I also have a 20 lbs butter crock. Im sure its Red Wing, but not marked. The only marking is the blue rectangle with " 20 LBS" on the side. Its also in excellent condition. no cracks or chips. thanks very much for your time and information, much appreciated. sid magerkurth, geneseo, il

Answer: Sid, your 5 gallon shoulder jug with birch leaves, oval and bottom signed is a nice piece. With the chip on the side, but glazed over, the value would be $250 to $300. The 5 gallon shoulder jugs with ovals are a tough find. Your 20 lb butter with just the "20 LBS" on it has a value between $250 & $350. Al Kohlman
