Question:
I have a Red Wing wine jug? 18 inches tall with cork. 37 inches around with handle. Looks like a number 5 in blue with Red Wing below that. Betty

Answer: Betty, Red Wing made two types of 5 gallon jugs. One is the beehive jug produced between 1895 & 1917 and the other (most commonly found) is the 5 gallon shoulder jug which was produced between 1917 & 1947. The shoulder jug has a small 1/2 inch shoulder where the dome of the jug and the sides meet. Where the beehive jug has no shoulder and the dome of the jug just flows into the sides and gives that jug the appearance of a beehive. Now with all of this said you will need to look at your 5 gallon jug and determine which one you have. Value on the beehive is between $300 & $350. The shoulder jug $50 to $75. Hope this is what your were looking for. Al Kohlman
