Question:
I have a 30 gallon red wing crock that we had in our old farm house. When we moved I took it with me but we really don’t use it so it just sits in our garage. The width is 20 3/4" and it’s 20 1/2" tall and in great condition. The red wing is under the 30# and below the red wing is an oval with the word Union Co., Minnesota. No date is on this crock which I find odd because your web site shows dates stamped on the crocks. I believe this was used as a salt container in the old farm house which was over 100 years old back in 1975. Can you tell me how much this may be worth? Just a ball park. If you need a picture, I can try and submit one but thought I’d just ask. Thank you for your time. Pat O.
Answer: Pat, the date you see a number of Red Wing crocks is Dec 21, 1915. This is the patent date for the handles you see on the crock and not the date of the crock. Because your 30 gallon does not have handles is why you do not see a date. This tells me that your 30 gallon Red Wing crock was produced between 1909 & 1915. If in perfect condition and looks sharp the value is around $350. Al Kohlman
