Question:
HI, I HAVE A TWO GALLON WATER COOLER IN PERFECT CONDITION WITH ALL ORIGINAL PARTS AND LID. SINCE THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS SIZE IN ANY OF MY RED WING BOOKS I DON’T HAVE AN IDEA OF A FAIR CURRENT MARKET PRICE. I TRIED IT ON EBAY FOR 2,500.00 BUT IT DIDN’T SELL. ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANKS, GARY
Answer: Gary, a perfect Red Wing 2 gallon water cooler with the small wing and good markings has a value around $2000. That would include a perfect lid and correct spigot. Now I can tell you if you put it a $2000 on eBay at Buy it now, it will not sell. That is the biggest mistake sellers make. Collectors are looking for a deal or must get caught up in the auction to bring that kind of value. You would be better off placing a reserve on your cooler and starting it off at $100 or so and let the bidding begin. Also, just because a cooler is pefect, does not mean that it is worth what I told you. It needs to be sharp!. Nice dark, complete and clear markings. No flaws on the front that will take away from the beauty when displayed. It is sometimes the simple things that make the piece and bring the value up. I have always said, "if it is a sharp piece I will pay the price and more to get it". A plain Jane piece the collectors can and will pass on. So price it according. Al Kohlman
