Question:
I have this Red Wing lock top jar. Would like to know its value, age, and what it says on the lid, I cant make it out. Also cant find one like this anywhere on the net. Measures 7 1/2" tall and 4 1/4" wide at the base. Wing is 3". Lid is 3 1/2 across. In great shape. Brian

Answer: Brian, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your preserve jar looks to be a fake. First of all, the lid is a Western Stoneware lid and the preserve jar looks Western as well, second, that red wing looks to be too red. Go ahead and take a pearing knife or small pocket knife and scrape the red wing. If that wing is real, the knife will not affect it as it is under the glaze. If the wing starts to peal off, then I am correct. Let me know what you find. Al Kohlman
