Question:
I have a 6 gallon butter churn, includes lid and dasher. I have been searching to establish a value of this piece and have been unsuccessful. It has one hairline crack but all and all it is in good condition I have enclosed several pictures for your assistance. http://i54.tinypic.com/5ogg7l.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/26068bc.jpg http://i53.tinypic.com/v3lmr5.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/n181hy.jpg

Thanks, Joan

Answer: Joan, to get a good idea of value it is nice to know the age of a piece as well. Your Red Wing 6 gallon churn was produced between 1915 & 1930. So it is not the earliest 6 gallon churn with wing produced by Red Wing. This has a affect on it’s value. Second would be the hairline. This is huge in today’s economy. Collectors today want perfect pieces. So here I go with your value. First thing would be the lid. If the lid is perfect, the value would be $100 just for it. The 6 gallon churn with the hairline, $150 (if the churn were perfect $275 by itself). So all together with lid & churn, around $250. I hope this helps. Al Kohlman
