Question:
Al I have a 1/2 gal brown top jug that is not salt glazed on the bottom . It has the white zinc glazed bottom half instead and brown on the top half. Much like the jugs with a small wing on it but no wing on this jug. It is however bottom signed with a raised signature from Minnesota Stoneware Red Wing Minnesota. It is in perfect condition with no damage. I have not seen one in any of the price guides and was wondering if you have any idea as to a value? Steve
Answer: Steve, I have never seen the 1/2 gal brown top bottom with a zinc glaze bottom signed either. So this is just a guess on the value. As you know most collectors want to see advertising or decorations on their pieces, so those that are just bottom signed never get as high in value as those decorated or have advertisng. If it were salt glazed, I would say $75 to $100 in today’s market. Not ever seeing one that is zinc glazed with the Albany slip top, I would think $150 to maybe $200. Al Kohlman
