Question:
I have gotten started collecting red wing crocks and jugs I have 2 5gal. 4"wing shoulder jugs, 1 smooth necked and 1 that has a groove about 1" down from the top.Was this used for holding on stoppers? Is there a differance in value? Kevin
Answer: Kevin the one 5 gallon shoulder jug with the groove on the spout was used by anyone who wanted to place a piece of cloth or other material around the top. Then a string would be tied around the cloth and the grove would keep the string from slipping off of the spout. There is no value difference for one jug which has a grove and one that does not.
