Question:
Hi, I recently bought a crock at an auction. It’s hard to read, but on the bottom I believe it says Red Wing Stoneware (I can faintly see the W in ware, but not really the a-r-e). The letters are about 1/2" in size, and not very uniform. The crock is about 6" high, and 9.5" across the top. It is glazed (not very evenly). There are a couple of hairline cracks on the bottom of the inside about 3" long each. The rest of the crock is in nice shape. Again it’s hard to read but I believe that’s what is says (or what I want it to say LOL), and I do not see any other markings. Sorry if the picture isn’t the best, my camera isn’t very good. Any info. you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lori Sander

Answer: Lori, from what I can see and your description, I would say you have a Red Wing 10 pound butter crock which is bottom signed. If your butter crock would have been in perfect condition the value would be around $50 in today’s markets. With the hairlines, the value is between $25 & $30. Collectors are looking for perfect pieces and they like decorations or advertising to adorn them. Al Kohlman
