Question:
Hi there, I indeed have received an old butter churn from my grandmother many years back. I don’t know much about it, except that I caused a crack and need to know if it is worth repairing? Or if it is even possible to repair. Does it have any value with a crack? It appears to be a Red Wing 15.5" tall 9" across top. No churn stick and the lid is wood. Most likely replaced? Also chips around top from use. Here is a picture. Thanks so much for your time and expertise. Heidi

Answer: Heidi, your 4 gallon salt glaze churn does not look to be Red Wing. The top rim does not look correct. It could be Western or Ohio. Either way, the decoration is very common (lazy 8, target) and not well applied. So even if it were Red Wing the value would be less than $200 if it were in mint condition. So a repair would not be worth the money spend. Al Kohlman
