Question:
I have a 20 gallon Red Wing crock with matching lid. The red wing is 4-1/8" wide. The Red Wing Potteries, Inc. oval is 1-3/4" wide. However, I cannot find the 1915 patent stamp. Can you tell me exactly where to look, or if Red Wing discontinued the 1915 patent stamp at some point. If so, this may help in identifying the age of this crock. – As near as I’ve been able to determine, this crock was made in 1936 or later, and is a Bristol (zinc) glazed piece. I feel the value of the crock and lid is about $500.00. Please see photos. Any expert information will be much appreciated. Dwight
Answer: Dwight, after reading your question, I don’t think you need my help. You pretty much nailed it down. The patent stamp may have been missed, It is usually located next to one of the handles. The potteries oval dates your crock between 1936 & 1947. The lid has a value right around $300 and the 20 gallon crock $200 if both are in mint condition. So you are hired as the expert. Al Kohlman
