Question:
I just picked up a log cabin xmas 1903 tree stump and did some looking on the internet and saw that one had just sold as a red wing, no picture but by discription it sounds like the one that I have. It is shaped like a tree stump or log brown slip glaze in color with a hole on the top. It has a ink stamp on top that says log cabin xmas 1903. I can’t make out what it says on the bottom I do see no.8 and letters wit st in a circle hope this helps. thanks for any information. Jerry

Answer: Jerry, I have not seen a tree stump or log like this before. These tree stumps or logs could have been manufacturer by any of the number of Midwest stoneware companies. I myself do not believe this is Red Wing, but could be wrong. Without a signature or a proven piece that is Red Wing that would duplicate your piece, it is just anyone’s guess on which pottery produced it. Al Kohlman
