Question:
Hi, I just bought a 10 gallon crock with large wing and no bailed handles. The oval stamp has the word Union above the phrase Stoneware Company. Similar to the oval style I’ve seen on Birch leaf crocks. Most Winged crocks I’ve seen have the oval with the phrase Union Stoneware Company on one line. What is the difference in age and value? Thanks Matt

Answer: Matt, you have oval #5. Ovals 5, 6, & 7 were all started around 1917 and ran until around 1930. So the value on your piece is the same as the other oval (#7) you are referring to. A six inch wing however is in much greater demand than a 4 inch wing. Value on you crock in mint condition is around $150. Al Kohlman
