Question:
i have recieved an absolutely beautiful single handled five gallon albany glazed brown jug that has the number five written into the glaze and is stamp marked redwing stoneware company near the base under the handle.it has one small chip in the glazing and a small chip in the spout. i was wondering if someone could possibly date it for me and possibly give somewhat of an estimate.thank you Ray
Answer: Ray, your 5 gallon Red Wing Albany slip beehive was manufactured in the same time period as the salt glaze jugs. Anywhere from the late 1860′s to the early 1890"s. The value in mint condition is around $1200. Because for the deep chocolate glaze, the chips stand out so much greater than the salt glaze pieces. With this being said, the value would be around half of a mint piece. Al Kohlman
