Question:
I was given what seems to be an extremely rare saltglazed redwing crock/churn. I have attached a picture. I can’t find any information regarding its age or value. I would appreciate your feedback.

Answer: Well it looks like your were given a highly prized and sought after Red Wing bird. Very sharp bird! It also looks like there may be a wire around the bottom of the rim of this crock. Is this the case. Wire around the rim tells me that the piece may have a crack or hairline. Also there looks to be some staining just under the rim? If there is, this would also affect it’s value. Seeing that you did not know if your 15 gallon gift (crock) was Red Wing or not, I take it that the piece is not signed. So given all of the ifs, I am going to give you a value range. $10,000 to $20,000. Hope you were sitting down! Very nice piece.
