Question:
My 85 year old mother is parting with some of her antique collections, she needs the money to live on. She recently saw a crock just like this in an antique news letter which sold for $2,300. We are wondering if you can identify this crock and maybe an approx. value. The crock is about 25 inches high and does not have handles. The blue circular lable reads Redwing Union Store Ware Co. Redwind, Minn.

Answer: I am not sure what Red Wing crock you seen in the antique news letter, but it must have been something quite special for that kind of value. Your mother’s 8 gallon Red Wing crock was produced between 1909 & 1915. When the Red Wing Stoneware Company produced these type of zinc glazed crocks they were manufacturing around 10,000 gallons of these types of ware per week. So there were plenty produced. With this being said, the value is much lower on these type of crocks. Your mother’s 8 gallon crock as a value between $150 & $175 if there are no chips, cracks or hairlines. Any damage of this type will lower it’s value. Still a nice looking piece. Hope this helps. Al Kohlman
