Question:
Recently, we found a stoneware poultry waterer buried behind the old chicken house. The waterer is 10 1/2" high, 21" around, has a wire bale handle and has the following printed on it in blue: RED WING KO-REC FEEDER PATENT NO. 1783,780 THE RED WING POTTERIES, INC. RED WING, MINN. SET ON A LEVEL The feeder has a 2" crack in the front and the base to set in on is missing. Presently, I’ve got it cleaned up and displayed in the kitchen. Mostly, I wondered if it is really old. It is certainly an interesting piece. I’d never heard of Red Wing Pottery prior so already I’ve learned something!
Answer: The Red Wing K0-Rec feeder was the later of all the chicken waterer’s produced. It was produced in the 1930′s. In mint condition without the base, the value would be around $75. With the crack, the value would be about half. Al Kohlman
