Question:
I have a 30gallon redwing crock with one bright wing on it with 2 other one going around the crock. these 2 are not as bright as the first one. Have you every see one like this? This has wire handles . I would like to know something about it. Thank you John

Answer: John, I have reviewed your photos of your Red Wing 30 gallon crock with an additional wing. The second wing is more of a mistake or smear than what we would refer do as a double stamp. Double stamped pieces were usually made to advertise in store window. With a double stamp, people passing by the store could see the Red Wing Stoneware piece in the window. If they came into the store, they would could see the same logo or Red Wing from the inside of the store. I have seen a number of these crocks. One had a six inch wing, gallonage & oval stamped at least 5 times going all the way around the crock, have seen a 20 gallon with a six inch wing and oval with a set of birch leaves and oval next to it and a 4 gallon crock with a 4 inch Red Wing and a set of birch leaves below it with an oval. So they are out there, but of course quite rate. One of the things that make these crocks so valuable is there beauty and perfect stamps. On your crock the second Red Wing is not complete, light and hard to identify as a Red Wing. As far as value would go, a mint 30 gallon Red Wing in today’s market has a value around $350. With the large chip on your bottom, incomplete wing on the right side and blurred oval, I would place the value around $200. Still a nice piece, but just does not fit in the double stamped pieces. Hope this helps. Al Kohlman
