Answer: Yes, there is a difference in time of manufacture of the crock dependent on whether it has large or small red wing. The smaller the wing, the newer the or later the crock. The red color in the the red wing contains Uranium which is also low radio-active. As time went on, Uranium started to become somewhat expensive (more so when the war began in 1930) and for that reason smaller wings were used to decorate the stoneware. Al Kohlman
