Hi. I have this 5 gal. shoulder jug with the small wing and a small Red Wing Union Stoneware Co, Red Wing, MN oval, but it is a brown top jug, rather than the all zinc glaze I usually see. How common is the brown top jug in this size, and what might it be worth? Thank you.

Answer: Brown top 5 gallon Red Wing shoulder jugs are not very common and therefore will demand a higher value than the all zinc glazed shoulder jugs. The 4 inch red wing on these jugs are even much harder to find then the 2 7/8 inch wing jugs. With the blemish on the front of your jug, the value would be in the area of $350 to $400 if there is no damage on the jug itself.. Al Kohlman
