Question:
I have this wine crock, and it says its a five gallon measure at the bottom. It says " STEUBEN COUNTY WINE CO, TELEPHONE MAIN 1352 227-229 WEST MADISON ST CHICAGO, Ill " my grandfather gave me this before he died, he told me that he had been working in the tunnels in Chicago and that there were two of these and he took the one that wasn’t broke,he said that years ago that is how the stores deliverd there goods was through those tunnels, witch is cool to me. Could you tell me what this might be worth today,and the year it was made, and was Red Wing the maker of it?. I wish i had an old picture of the old workers in the under ground tunnels with some of these jars . hope you can help me out!. Thank You: Renee
Answer: Renee, I really need to see a photo of your piece, You state that it is a crock and I think it may be a jug? If it is a jug, is it a shoulder or beehive jug? Is there a red wing on the jug or not? All of these things affect the value of the piece. Send me a photo and I will be happy to help you out and with dating and placing a value on your jug.
