Question:
I was given this crock from my mother-in-law who said it was very old. I am wondering if it is a fake because all the images I can find always have the red wing in the middle. As you can see from the photo, this crock has the wing on the bottom. Please send me any information including value. Thanks, Bret
Answer: Bret, you have an early Red Wing 4 gallon butter churn with the 1st Red Wing "ski oval". This tells me that your churn was manufactured between 1909 & 1912. Reverse oval churns (especially with ski ovals) are loved by collectors. I see from the photo however, that the decorations are light. This does hurt it’s value as collectors love the darker decorated pieces. Still a nice piece. Value is between $375 & $400. Al Kohlman
