Question:
Hello, Al – I am one of the writers for Country Sampler’s Antiques Q&A column. One of our readers wants to know more information about these spongeware bowls, which appear to be Red Wing. Here is the info we have: " … I believe my Red Wing spongeware bowls date to 1910-1920. 11-inch bowl with smooth sides has ad advertisement in the bottom. … paid $25 28 years ago … 10-inch owl has ribbed surface … paid $15 to $20 37 years ago … what is the current value?" There’s no mention of condition. Thank you for your opinion. Tom H.
Answer: Tom, 11 inch paneled spongeware bowls with advertising are tough to find. If your 11 inch Red Wing paneled spongeware bowl is mint, the value would be much higher than the normal advertising bowls in the 6 to 8 inch size. Depending on the advertising $400 to $500. Al Kohlman
