Question:
My husband and I found this beautiful salt-glazed 4-gal. crock recently. Its 12" tall and 10-1/3" across the top – great condition, color and texture. It is not marked, except for the cobalt decorations on front. No cracks, 2 small flakes off the top edge. Inside is gorgeous, with deep cobalt blue over a brown slip glaze. Rings seen inside, some reverse spattering of brown slip glaze inside, too. Can you tell me if its Red Wing or possibly Macomb Pottery? We’ve been told its either one or the other???? Thanks! Carol
Answer: Your 4 gallon salt glazed crock is not Red Wing and very well could be Macomb. However, I am not 100 percent sure of that. It is a nice looking piece. Sorry I could not be of more help. Al Kohlman
